The Paithani Saree - A Poem In Silk

The Paithani saree is known the world over for its uniqueness. It is one of the most beautiful sarees in the world. Beautifully crafted, with an exquisite zari border, this saree is truly a poem in silk. The Paithani saree is chosen by brides to wear on their special day, especially in Gujarati and Maharashtrian families.

The Paithani sarees are mostly woven in Paithan in Maharashtra. Yeola, Pune, Nasik and Malegaon in Maharashtra are the other centres where weaving of Paithani sarees is undertaken. These sarees were initially woven specially for queens and other members of the royal family by weavers in the palaces. However, with the passage of time, these sarees are now easily available both in India and internationally.

In an original Paithani saree, pure silk is used in the weaving of the body and pure gold and silver zari is used in the pallu and the border. The zari used in the preparation of the saree is specially procured from Surat in Gujarat. The process of preparation of a Paithani saree can take a time period ranging from a month to years. It is because of these reasons that this saree is rather expensive. To bring down the price of these sarees, weavers are using silver instead of gold and silk in place of silver.

Traditionally, Paithanis used to have a plain body with a heavy golden border and a large pallu. However, with the passage of time, various motifs began to be used in these sarees.

Though modern-day weavers are trying to develop newer and innovative motifs, usually traditional motifs are used in Paithani sarees. The most commonly used motifs in the body of these sarees are 'kamal' (lotus flower), 'hans' (swan), 'asharfi' (coin), 'asawalli' (flowering vine), 'Bangadi mor' (peacock in bangle), 'rui phool' (cotton flower), circles, stars and clusters of leaves. In the pallu of such sarees, certain motifs are very commonly found. Some of them are 'Asawali', 'Panja' (a flower in a geometrical shape), 'Muthada' (a geometrical shape), and 'mor' (peacock).

Paithani sarees are woven in a number of colors. These colors can be pure or be created using a blend of different colored yarns. The colors that are typically used in these sarees are 'kaali chandrakala' (black), 'uddani' (lighter black), 'pophali' (yellow), 'neeligungi' (blue), 'pasila' (a combination of green, red and pink), 'pheroze' (a blend of green, white and red), 'samprus' (a mixture of green and red) and 'kusumbi' (a purple and red combination).

Artisans in Paithan have been practicing the art of weaving the Paithani saree for centuries, and this tradition has been passed on from one generation to another. MSSIDC i.e. Maharashtra Small Scale Industrial Development Corporation Limited was established in the year 1962.

How to Drape a Designer Sarees

Few easy Steps involved in wearing a Saree

Step 1. Around your body. Starting at the navel, tuck the plain end of the saree into the petticoat and continue tucking till you take a complete turn from right to left. Adjust the lower end of the saree to the height required. Ideally wear your footwear so that you drape the saree to the right length.

Step 2. Measuring the pallu. Hold the top edge of the saree where the pallu is and bring it around your hips to the front and over your left shoulder, thus measuring the length of the pallav or pallu. The pallav should hang down the back to the knee. You may pin your pallav to your sari blouse provisionally.

Step 3. Making pleats. Create pleats with the saree. Make about 7 to 10 pleats and hold them up together so that they fall straight and even. Tuck the pleats into the waist petticoat slightly to the left of the navel, taking care to see that the pleats are turned towards the left.

Step 4. The pallu. The remaining portion of the saree must be turned once around the body and then draped over the left shoulder. Arrange the pleats on this part of the saree and then pin them up on the left shoulder to prevent the pallu from falling off.
This is the most common method to wear a saree.

Some Different styles of draping the sarees in different states:-

The Kanchipuram Silk Industry

The occasion of marriage for a South Indian bride is incomplete without a Kanchipuram saree in her trosseau. Among the wide range of silk sarees available in India, from the Benares silk saree to the Patola from Patan, the Kanchipuram saree holds a special position. The strength and magnificence of the Kanchipuram saree makes it one of the favourites among ladies all over the world.

Now that the world has become a global village, Kanchipuram sarees are available the world over. However, the production of these beautiful sarees is still centred in Kanchipuram, a small town located on the Palar river in South India. Also called Kanchi, the town is renowned for its silk industry and its temples.

The origin of the Kanchipuram saree dates back to centuries ago, when these sarees used to be woven in temples. Kanchipuram sarees, woven from pure mulberry silk, are found in myriad colours. These sarees have borders and ‘pallu’ in a contrast colour with heavy gold weaving. Kanchipuram sarees traditionally had designs representing simple gold lines or gold dots. The designs in these sarees were inspired by the designs in South Indian temples or natural elements like birds, leaves, etc. Some of the best known patterns in Kanchipuram saree borders are ‘Rudraksham’ (representing Rudraksha beads), ‘Gopuram’ (representing temples), ‘Mayilkan’ (Peacock eye) and ‘Kuyilkan’ (Nightingale eye). Keeping in view the changing trends, Kanchipuram silk sarees have undergone a transformation. Now, even Kanchipuram designer silk sarees are available, with embroidery or crystal work done on the traditional silk saree. One of the latest trends in these sarees is using ancient paintings and the images of gods and goddesses in the ‘pallu’.

In an authentic Kanchipuram silk saree, the body of the saree and the ‘pallu’ are woven separately and then stitched together. The distinctive weaving technique of a Kanchipuram silk saree using three single threads of silk yarn along with ‘zari’, that is silk threads dipped in liquid gold and silver. The mulberry silk comes from the state of Karnataka and the gold ‘zari’ comes from Surat. In spite of Kanchipuram becoming a world-famous silk industry centre, the town does not manufacture silk or any other raw material used in the production of a silk saree.

The town of Kanchipuram is well known as “Silk City” because almost ¾ of its population is dependent upon the silk industry. Skilled and semi-skilled weavers from neighbouring towns like Salem, Arani, Coimbatore and Kumbakonam are also involved in the production of silk sarees.

Alvar Aalto - A Master of Timeless Design

Alvar Aalto was born in Kuortane, Finland in 1908, and he lived until 1976. He was a renowned Finnish architect and designer of furniture. His studies led him to architectural school in Helskini, where he graduated in 1921. However, his career did not begin well in Helskini, and so he moved on to a smaller town to start an office and begin his career.

His wife, Aino, was originally hired as his assistant. She was a young woman who designed glass and furniture. Later, they had two children. In the 1920's and 1930's, Alvar Aalto designed several well know landmarks in Finland. In the late 1940's, he taught at MIT. Some of his most well known furniture includes a variety of table designs and lamps.

Alvar Aalto designed his first lamps as a student in the university of technology in Helsinki where he won a lighting competition in 1920. The name Aalto is still highly regarded in the world of lighting and lamps as he designed several classic lamp models that are considered as modern today as when he designed them.

Before he even graduated, Alvar Aalto began designing his first furniture. Once in his new architecture office, he received a huge order to design furniture for six churches in Finland. He designed the well known Paimio Sanatorium in 1929. He also designed each piece of furniture in the structure, as well as the lamps. For each structure he designed, he also designed custom "Aalto tables" and other furniture for it.

Many women go all out when it comes to their wedding dress, and some even buy two wedding dresses for the day and night.

Unfortunately, that is not the reality for most women. You need to choose one dress, and the dress you choose will be your wedding dress, and the dress that everyone will remember. Though that does not mean that you have to go all out when it comes to the wedding dress, if need be you could settle for a cheap wedding dress. Second is to just start drawing and you will be surprised what comes out. You will then need to cross reference your designs with designs on the internet. You will get some good ideas there, then you will need to figure out what fabric to use.

The third step is to settle for a second hand wedding dress which price is definitely much less than a completely new eedding dress.

For the fourth step, you will need to find someone to put it all together, but if you were smart enough you would have someone with you all the way, so that when it comes to the actually putting together of the dress the dressmaker is all clued up.

The last way to get a cheap wedding dress is to redesign your prom dress which you could have worn at high school and if it still fits you. Get some loose fabrics and be really creative. You will never know what kind of gorgeous design you will get!

Forex Trading - Trend Trading (part 1)

What is a trend? You'd think that such a basic question would be easy to answer, right? But really, what is a trend? How do you define it? How do you recognize one?

The first thing to understand is that you never know you have a trend until one is already present. The beginning of a trend looks just like any little turn around in the market. Only luck can get you on the very beginning of a trend.

So, how do you know if you have a trend? I think moving averages are the easiest way to make that determination. Sure you could use the breakout of a channel, but I think that's more subjective. With the moving average, all you have to do is look at it and see what direction it is sloping. Put a thirty-five period moving average on your chart and you'll instantly have a good idea of where the trend is.

Side note: There is no such thing as a micro-trend. Let me say that again. There is no such thing as a micro-trend. On a five-minute chart, an upward move that lasts several hours is not a trend. It's not a micro-trend. That doesn't exist. It's just a move from a high to a low. That's all.

There is no trend trading on a five-minute chart.

You need to be looking at daily (possibly) weekly charts to see real trends. That makes the whole process more accurate. Sure, it's not 100 percent right. After all, you can only recognize a trend in hindsight.

How do you enter your trade at the best spot? See you in part 2 . . .

Short-Term Trendline

Have you ever heard of words saying “the trend is your friend”? Yup, everybody keeps saying that when they enter the market. Especially in forex which is running in 24 hours in every work day.

This article is discussing how short-term trend is being developed. First of all, let’s us know that “bullish” means upward trend and “bearish” means downward trend.

Bullish trend is occurred when series of market price that represented by candlesticks/bars on chart are showing upward movement.

And vice versa, bearish trend is occurred when series of market price that represented by candlesticks/bars on chart are showing downward movement.

And the next question is what are we going to do in bullish or bearish trend?

Since I trade by following the big trend, then I only buy in bullish trend and only sell in bearish trend. But this is not what swing traders do (let’s talk about this some other time).

Now, we’re going to determine bullish and bearish trend by drawing diagonal line on our chart. Use 1H time scale to draw short-term trend line.

Connect opening/closing price at low levels which are making upward pattern to make bullish trend line and connect opening/closing price at high levels which are making downward pattern to make bearish trend line.

In bullish trend, we buy just above the line but not too far above the line. And in bearish trend, we sell just below the line but not too far below the line.

Tattoo Design - How to Find a Unique Tattoo!

Trying to find a unique tattoo can be difficult, especially with so many tattoo designs out there. Here's how to find something unique that speaks to you.

First, think of the life qualities you feel strongly about, or the things in life you're attracted to, or have strong tastes towards. This can range from specific life experiences or simply just images you personally find cool. There are many "cool" or "popular" designs out there, but do they really speak to you? Make sure you make your tattoo decision a very personal one. This way you won't have any regrets, and will be confident in your choice for a tattoo.

Second, figure out a general design style. Do you want to go tribal, traditional, or go with a more modern design? Style is very important to figure out. Try to go by personal taste and not what seems to be "trendy" at the time. For instance many people were getting tribal tattoos a few years ago because they were popular. But as soon as the trend wore off, some individuals grew tired of their tribal design, the attraction suddenly becoming not as cool as they once thought.

Third, hit up a tattoo gallery website, which will have literally hundreds of the latest high quality, unique designs to choose from. At your leisure, you can log on to the site, and browse through the designs, book marking your favorites. These sites will constantly be updated so new designs will come online all the time. This way you are guaranteed not to miss out on the best and latest tattoo designs available.

Update Your Decor For Spring 2007

Home fashions for spring 2007 are following the clothing fashions seen on the catwalks, so if you want some quick and easy ways to update your home this spring, look no further than your favourite fashion magazine.

The first big trend is Florals. Just as spring makes you want to adorn yourself in pretty flowers, it should also inspire you to dress your home in flowers too. The quickest, lowest commitment way to do this is to buy some fresh flowers, get out a pale or glass vase and get displaying them.

The fashionable flowers to use for this season are those that are delicate and romantic, especially those that work well with twigs and bark to emphasise a more rugged look. Choose freesias, roses, narcissus, lilies and tulips.

However if you have a bigger makeover in mind you will be able to find flowers on anything you want – from cushions and curtains to china, linens and even upholstery. You can go wild and create a country-style chintz display or simple add a floral table cloth to get in with this trend.

This natural look leads us onto the next big trend – the colour Green, especially in a leaf design. Green is calming and the perfect partner for all those florals. Now, green can be overpowering so be selective; a glossy green vase, a single green table or a feature wall would make a perfect accent for a room. Leaf designs can go anywhere from artwork to soft furnishings, and their greater subtlety makes them an easier option for getting the green trend into your home.

The final trend is also straight off the catwalk, and it is for those of you who love drama! Black and White graphic designs from stripes to 60’s op-art, checks to spots are the hot trend for the fashion focused interior. You could go for a mainly black interior and to make the room seem larger choose glossy accessories with white and green accents. Alternatively black accents in an all white interior will also be modern and dramatic.

Tribal Belly Button Rings

Tribal belly button rings are a variety of belly rings that use tribal designs for decoration. Belly rings are body-piercing accessories used since ancient times. Tribals associate myths and rituals with the use of body-piercing jewels. Belly rings were symbols of status, and they have become popular in modern day, too.

Tribal belly button rings are made of different materials, including gold, steel, acrylic, titanium, etc. Titanium and steel are very popular as they add a gothic look to the jewelry. Organic materials like bone, teeth, etc. are also modified as belly rings with tribal designs.

The jewelry is often decorated with stones. The stones are usually unpolished to retain the natural look. Enamel is used in acrylic material to feature the tribal design. Natural colors suit the tribal jewelry most. Rainbow textures and gold-plate finish are also available, though not very popular. Red and black, black and white, and metallic finishes are the top-selling jewelry combinations available on the market.

Tribal designs are usually complicated geometry. Hearts, stars, suns, and the like are some of the popular designs. Reverse designs are also attractive. Artistically designed dangles are aesthetic and sensuous. Cascades of rings, stars, and metamorphosis are the common dangling tribal designs. Rare designs are the favorites in the market.

Personalized belly button rings are available with the logo of tribal designs, which is a recent trend in the market since the logo can be changed easily. Tribal design tattoos are also incorporated in the belly button rings.
